Research Summaries • News of Ongoing Pilots (Coming)
Test Instrument Used: Wordware Online Reading Assessment (Scores reported as percent improvement); Woodcock Reading Mastery (hand-administered; scores reported as change in reading grade level)
Length of Trial: 5 weeks, 45 min/day of computer aided vocabulary-reading acceleration + 15 min/day hands-on reading
Average Starting Reading Score: Woodcock Grade Equivalent: 6.5
Average Ending Reading Score: Woodcock Grade Equivalent: 8.8
Summary: The entering 9th graders who were identified as at-risk for reading showed an average increase of 10.8 percentage points on the Wordware test and an average jump in reading grade-level of 2.3 years on the Woodcock. 100% of entering students completed the entire five week intensive 7-Step Vocabulary-Powered Reading program, 86% of students reached and in fact far exceeded the “high school success” reading grade-level target.*
* our studies show that entering 9th graders with at least a 7.0 reading grade level have a better chance of graduating
Test Instrument Used: New Century Reading Assessment

Average Ending Reading Score: New Century Reading Assessment: 7.0
Summary: The entering 9th graders who were identified as at-risk
for reading showed an average jump in reading grade-level of 1.1 years
on the New Century Reading Assessment. 100% of entering students completed the intensive 7-Step Vocabulary-Powered Reading program in addition to taking their full freshman course load. 60% of students reached and or exceeded the “high school success” reading grade-level target.*
